Dalhougal is situated in the centre of Croftamie which is a typical small Scottish village. It is within Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park and near to Loch Lomond Shores which is the centrepiece of Scotland's first national park. The house is about two hundred years old, Buckie is the fifth generation to live in the house. The stair to Nell's apartment was originally outside and the turret was added about a hundred years ago. Both apartments are of traditional Scottish design with a lot of character. There is a secluded garden to the rear of the apartments where there are views to Ben Lomond and the Campsie Fells. Close by is Buchanan Castle, the original home of the Dukes of Montrose where many escapades with Rob Roy McGregor took place. Half an hour's drive away is Stirling, the centre of much of Scotland's history. A visit to Stirling Castle is a must. With the recent film, Braveheart, the life and history of William Wallace is of interest and can be viewed at The Wallace Monument also in Stirling. A pleasant short drive takes you to The Trossachs which is a rugged area between Aberfoyle and Callander, this area has lots of forest walks. Also while in the area you can see Scotland's only lake, The Lake of Menteith with an island on which is Inchmaholm Priory. Our local parish church at Kilmaronock is one of the oldest in the district with some very old gravestones. There are two golf courses within a mile, Buchanan Castle golf club, an 18 hole parkland course and Strathendrick, an interesting 9 hole, both welcome visitors. The national cycle track passes close by, cycles can be hired locally. There are many walks from the apartments with lovely views of the Endrick Valley. We offer free fishing on the River Endrick for our guests. Glengoyne Scotch Malt Whisky distillery is three miles distant which offers tours to visitors. Loch Lomonds proximity allows easy access to sailing on the loch from Balloch or on the mail boat sailing from Balmaha. Glasgow is half an hours drive where there are many places of interest including The Burrell Collection, and many more museums and art galleries. a visit to Glasgow is well worth while. There are various good examples of Glasgow architect, Charles Rennie MacIntosh's work and nearby in Helensburgh is Hill House, one of his masterpieces. During
the summer season there are a variety of local events including Drymen
Agricultural Show on the last Saturday in May, several local Highland
Games in July and there is an up to date list of other events in the information
packs in the apartments. © Dalhougal House.
